1. Place a check in the first four boxes, leave the last one unchecked
(see the special notes).
2. Fill in a valid folder where your wave and midi files are stored by
simply clicking on the
"bar" and browsing your way to
your wave and midi sound folders. Example C:\waves\ or C:\midi\
3. After finding your wave and midi folders .. click on "OK" to
close.

For first time mIRC
users:
For first time mIRC users:
If you wish to check the top 4 boxes in OPTIONS/SOUNDS/REQUESTS, doing so will
automatically send sound files to those persons requesting them from you.
NOTE:Most channels do not like or permit
people to request a wav/mp3 file in a private message. But rather prefer them
to be requested in the open
channel. For this reason, I recommend that you do not check the "Send
"!nick file" as a private message" box..
For experienced mIRC users
using a Wave Player:
For experienced mIRC users using a Wave/Mp3 player like WavGet, if you check
the 4th box ("listen for "!nick file" get requests) in OPTIONS/SOUNDS/REQUESTS,
this will cause your system to send duplicate sound files. If you decide to
check the 4th box in OPTIONS/SOUNDS/REQUESTS and let mIRC control your !nick
file get requests, I strongly recommended you turn off the "!nick file" get
requests in WavGet's Setup/DCC section. Just uncheck the box.
The following settings are for mIRC versions
5.5 and above.
mIRC gives you the ability to download files into the dir or
subdir of your choice.
Under DCC GET FOLDERS
do the following: a. Click ADD
b. Place the file extension in the top box. (example: *.txt,*.doc,*.wri) note:
If you enter more than one extension, separate them with a comma. Do NOT fill
in the second window, which asks for a program to open the document. You don't
want your text editor popping up every time you download a document
file.
c. Click on the "Into This Directory" bar and browse your way to the directory
you wish to
store the files in. Your *.wav, *.mp3 should also be directed to your wave
directory or in the case of your mp3 files your mp3 directory.
Do NOT fill in the second window, which asks for a program to open (play)
the sound file. Your wav/mp3 player should be started manually when you are
ready.
d. If you wish to download graphic files (.jpg and .gif) to a specific
directory also .. you may select a directory to send them to in the same way as
the other extensions. You may also designate a program to open the graphic
files automatically by clicking on the "And then open them with this
application" bar and browsing your way to your graphic viewers .exe file.
e. Click OK
The following settings should also be made in the main DCC
section:
The look of the DCC OPTIONS dialog box has changed. However, the settings are
generally
the same as previous versions. Click on DCC and set the follow
sections:
1. ON SEND REQUESTS:
Click on "Show Get Dialog" (NOTE: Do not click on "Auto Get File". With
that setting, a "not so friendly person" is able to send a file to you
without your permission .. so think ** VIRUS ** .. and play it safe.
2. IF AUTO-GET AND FILE EXISTS:
Click on "ASK" .. that way, if a file transfer is interrupted, it will
allow you to choose
to resume or overwrite the file if you choose. By choosing "RESUME" you
will save valuable downloading time.
3. ON CHAT REQUEST:
Click on "Show Chat Dialog" .. Here again you are giving yourself the
option of accepting with whom you wish to chat.
The following settings should be made in the main DCC/OPTIONS
section:
4. ON DCC COMPLETION:
These settings are a matter of personal preference so you will have to
experiment with them. I choose NOT to check any of the 3 "Notify with beeps"
options. In the "Close Window" section I choose to close the SEND and GET but
leave the CHAT window open until I decide to close it.
5. TIME OUT IN SECONDS:
Change time-outs to: 990/999/120
6. Set the MAX REMOTELY REQUESTED DCC SENDS to 20
The following settings should be made in the DCC/OPTIONS/FSERVE
section:
7. FSERVE:
Here I suggest you use the defaults unless you are familiar with "FServe"
capabilities.
The following settings should be made in the
DCC/OPTIONS/SERVER section:
8. SERVER:
This section is for those people that use a "special DCC server" like
FServer or FTP
so you don't have to be concerned with these setting unless you run those
kinds
of servers .. (see the mIRC 5.5+ help file for further info if
needed)
1. Make sure your IP address is correct, if it's not correct you will
not be able to DCC (Direct Computer to Computer) send files. If you're not
sure, clear all text in the fields and check: "On Connect always get Local
Host"
2. You can verify what mIRC thinks your host and IP are by entering the
command.... /dns yournick these results must match your local info data.
3. Under "Method" .. click NORMAL (unless you are instructed otherwise by your
Internet Service Provider (ISP).

work. So .. if possible .. copy and paste)
.Play A Wave With Text:/sound # $file="Choose a wave to play!"
c:\waves\*.wav $?="Type a
comment here" (this one plays a wav and allows you to add a text
comment)
Example: .Play A Wave File:/sound # $file="Choose a wave to play!"
c:\waves\*.wav
(this one plays a wav ONLY)
3.Replace (C:\waves\*.wav) to the complete path to YOUR wave folder.
4. Click OK.
5. To Play a Wave ONLY:
Right click in channel window, click on "Play A Wave File" and choose a

click "OK" to play it to the channel OR click Preview to hear it "locally"
to yourself.
6. To Play a Wave with Text:
Right click in channel window, click on "Play A Wave with Text" and choose
a wave to play .. then click "OK" to get the Text Addition Box or click
"Preview" to hear the wave "locally" to you. Once you have chosen a wave to
play .. click "OK" and add your text and click "OK" again..
How to "pull" a wav/mp3 sound file manually from an IRC channel:
After you are setup for sounds, if anyone plays a sound that you don't
have, you will not hear it and you will get a message.."sound doesn't exist
[filename.wav]" Therefore .. you need to "pull" it from their harddrive to
yours.
To "pull" a sound file when you see the message "sound doesn't exist"
Type:
!nickname filename.wav (for .wav files)
!nickname filename.mp3 (for .mp3 files)
Replace "nickname" with nickname of person who just played the wav/mp3 and
filename
with the name of the wav just played. Don't forget to include the file
extension.
Example: !Z_Man ontop.wav or !Z_Man upthere.mp3
If the other person has their mIRC setup correctly, the requested file will
automatically be sent to you via DCC. Just click OK to download the file to
your hard drive.
For those of you who have downloaded wave/mp3 players, I suggest setting your
player up in a separate directory.
If you haven't obtained a mIRC wave/mp3 player .. Go to my Mp3 Page, which is
located at
http://www.eburrow.com/mp3.htm and click on the WavGet link or go to
http://www.wavget.com You can download WavGet there .. which is the best one
(in my humble opinion).
See the WavGet.txt file that accompanies WavGet for step by step instructions
on installing
and troubleshooting WavGet .. everything you need to know is there.
However .. I strongly suggest that you use the Auto Configure mIRC option in
the WavGet
"Help" pull-down menu. It will load the wgremote.mrc into mIRC, this will add
all the required
lines automatically. It will also add an alias, so you can type /WavGet to
start it from within mIRC it's self.
1. Run mIRC and WavGet.
2. Choose Help/Configure mIRC in the WavGet pull down menu.
3. Click OK.
As of 10/1/99, the latest version of WavGet is 1.9
